JOMOLHARI TREK (Round Trek)

This trek is a medium duration trek that is probably the most trekked route in Bhutan due to its easy access, beautiful terrain and spectacular views of the majestic snowcapped mountains. Locally known as Chomolhari (The Mountain of Goddess Chomo), believed to be the abode of Chomo goddess is one of the most beautiful and imposing Mountains in the entire Himalyan region. Located at the northwestern border with Tibet, the trek to the base camp of this dome shaped mountain, provides an opportunity to experience the panoramic views of some of the world's highest peaks.

Beginning from Paro valley, your trek starts with gentle ascent through Bhutan's undisturbed forest of rhododendrons and pines. Passing through the villages with lush fields of rice, wheat, barely and rising above the tree lines you arrive in the regions sparsely inhabited by the migrant yak herders. The trail continues through enchanting snow peak flanked valley to the base of Mount Chomolhari and its spike shaped companion, Jichu Drake. You spend one entire day exploring the vicinity and perhaps some trout fishing or just relaxing and enjoying the wonders of nature. Further continue our treks towards Lingshi and end at Thimphu, this treks is consider as one of the most beautiful treks encountering abundant of wildlife, including, blue sheep, Takin and variety of birds, perhaps under the surveillance of the elusive snow leopard.

 

 

Day 01 Arrival Paro by Druk Air

You will be on board the Druk Air, Bhutan’s only national Airlines, and land at Paro Airport (the only Airport of the kingdom). On the air-journey to Paro, you can lavish the magnificent and breathtaking view of the towering Mount Everest and other famous Himalayan snow-capped peaks. And on your arrival at the aforementioned airport, (after customs and visa formalities), you will be accorded a very warm reception by a Representative of Bhutan Orchid Adventures .

Day 02 Paro Sightseeing

Drive to ruined Drukgyel Dzong, a victory fortress of the 17th century. Although in ruins, this Dzong is of great historical importance. It was here that the Bhutanese finally defeated the invading Tibetans and drove them back. In the afternoon, you will visit the National Museum, Rinpung Dzong (built in 1645 A.D) and crossing the typical traditional roofed bridge to Paro town. Overnight at hotel.

DAY 03 Paro – Shana

Today the start of trek from Drugyel Dzong to Shana for about 5-6 hours with gradual climb following the Paro river through the agriculture valley and villages. Your overnight camp will be at Shana Zampa, Alt 2,870 m /9,557 ft, Overnight at camp. 2800m.

DAY 04 Shana - Thangthangka

The trial is gradual ascent following the Paro River through the conifer forest & Rhododendron. The campsite in a flat meadow place surrounded by conifer and birch forest and on the clear day you could have a magnificent view of Mt. Jumolhari peep at you suddenly out of the clouds. Camp at alt. 3860, and trek of 6-7 hours.

DAY 05 Thangthangka - Jangothang

The trial leads by passing the array post and the valley begin to widen and come by the winter house of yak herder. Camp beneath a ruined fortress at the base of Mt. Jumolhari alt. 4040 m. and trek about 5-6 hours.

DAY 06 Jangothang - Halt

Explore with stupendous day hike with choice of oneself to the direction of Jumolhari, Drake to the north, un-climbed summits and ridges to the east or to Tsophu (lake). Overnight at camp.

DAY 07 JANGOTHANG – Lingshi

The trail is gradual climb over Nyili-la pass at Alt.4680m. and all the way with a view of Lingshi Dzong(Fortress) and Tserin Kang with its glaciers & lakes. Camp near the stream in a meadow at Alt. 3915 and this trek takes about 5-6hrs.

DAY 08 Lingshi halt

Day a halt at Lingshi make an excursion to Tsokha (lake). During the excursion hundreds of Blue Sheep, Musk Deer could be seen. Tsokha at the Alt. 4500m. hike takes about 4-5hrs.

DAY 09 Lingshi – Shodu

The trails take about 6-7hrs through the deep valley and ascend to Yeli-la pass at Alt. 4820m. from here Mt. Jomolhari, Mt. Tsheringang and Mt. Masagang can be seen on the clear day. Camp in a meadow at Alt. 3815m.

DAY 10 Shodu- Barshong

The trail winds up & down gently following the Thim-chu and gradual climb to Barshong ruin Dzong. Camp is just below the ruin Dzong at Alt. 3685m. trek is of 5-6hrs.

DAY 11 Barshong – Dolam Kencho

The trail descends gently down to meet Thim-Chu through the dense forest of Rhododendron, birch and conifer trees and across the pastureland. Camp in a meadow at Alt, 3428m. and trek takes about 5-6hrs.

DAY 12 Dolam Kencho – Thimphu

Continue the trek till reach Dodena where we meet with our conveyance. The trail is gentle up hill through the mixed forest of conifer & high altitude broad leaves. The trek takes about 4-5hrs.

DAY 13 THIMPHU sightseeing - Paro

Visit the Memorial Chorten (a huge Stupa) built in memory of King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, 1952 1972). Visit Changangkha Lhakhang and Sangaygang for a bird’s eye view of the city. Enroute visit Zilukha nunnery. After lunch, call on Handicrafts Emporium where Traditional Bhutanese textiles and other Arts and Crafts are displayed. You can also purchase the items of your choice. After an evening tea, drive to Paro along a winding road for about 2 hrs to spend a night there.

Day 14 – Departure

CLIMATE: Days are normally warm. Nights can at times be very cold and in winter sometimes comes below freezing points.

WHAT TO BRING: Personal clothing, strong normal clothing (accordingly). Preferably cotton for summer. Woolen clothes for evening and winter.

For TREKKING: Strong trekking boots, sunglasses, headgear, raincoat, sleeping bag, torchlights etc.
