The Kingdom

Hidden in the folds of the Himalayas for centuries, Bhutan (the land of the Thunder Dragon) evolved its own identity, culture and philosophy derived from Buddhism and age-old communion with nature.

Today, in an age where cutthroat materialism drives the world, the Kingdom still preserves a fine balance between development and spirituality anchored on a unique but refreshing philosophy of “Gross National Happiness”.

The last bastion of Mahayana Buddhism, Bhutan (about the size of Switzerland and situated between India in the south and China in the north) has been compared to the mythical Shangri-La with its spectacular peaks, lush valleys and sparkling streams amid a dream-like medieval setting.
